Week ending 1st/2nd of October saw Dorset's first home game of the season against County Durham. Last time we met exactly a year ago we were away and suffered a 17-19 defeat so this time we were hoping the home advantage would push the result in our favour. County Durham come to us off a win beating Oxfordshire 20-16 Dorset drew away against Gwent 18-18 for us a good result, so hopes and spirits were very high so how did we do?

Dorset last season relied quite heavily on the women giving us a good start and Saturdays ladies B team did just that. Up 1st Cathy Campbell who got us off to a great start winning 3-0 followed by Carol Llewellyn who did the same. Linda Bellingham next up took her game to a deciding leg which she lost. Next up Sally Old (ladies captain) who came from 0-2 down to take the win. Next up Katie Mitchell whose game went to a deciding leg which she won hitting a 19.04 average and was our lady of the match. Up last Donna Mabbatt who won 3-1 so an ALMOST perfect start with the women winning 5-1.

Up 1st Matt Read whose game went to a deciding leg which he lost, then up next Daniel Perry a young 14 year old brought up through our youth team who showed so much passion and the will and need to win and he didn't disappoint winning 3-0 good win good game and probably the loudest cheer so far. Kevin Smith's game going to a deciding leg which he lost, Mike Bowden up getting a win followed by Robby Morris playing more like we know he can taking a 3-0 and Man of the match win for Dorset hitting a 23.86 average followed up by Colin Littlecott who had a battle on his hands his game going to a deciding leg Colin hitting the winning double and getting his first (of many we hope) win for Dorset, followed by Dan Walker who won convincingly 3-1 and all of a sudden it looked like Dorset's Men's B were going to romp home the score now standing at Dorset 5 Durham 2. Next up for Dorset Alan Ayres who despite hitting the highest average for today (26.44) was involved in a GREAT game with Ian Adamson who was Durham's Man of the Match hitting a 25.86 average and taking a 3-1 win. Was that the turning point for County Durham? Next up for Dorset Richard Hutley who lost followed by Tim Poole who had a good game taking his match to a deciding leg which he lost. Suddenly our 5-2 advantage was gone as it stood all even at 5-5. Next up for Dorset Terry Prowse winning 3-0 and giving us a chance of a win. Up last Mark Sheen who was our Man of the Match last game against Gwent, this time his game going to a deciding leg which he lost so a 6-6 draw. The women as normal giving us a 4 game advantage going into Sunday.

Now Durhams lady's A team beat Oxfordshire's ladies 5-1 so we knew the ladies game wasn't going to be easy but our girls have a great team spirit and really do cheer each other on so the BELIEF was there. Up 1st Trina Perry despite hitting a 21.84 average lost to Durham's Linda Ithurralde who was their lady of the match winning 3-1 with a 21.99 average. Next Julie Boggust whose game like so many went to a deciding leg both players having chances to win Julie hitting the winning double. Next Peri Yarrow who missed a few doubles and lost 1-3 so Dorset trailed Durham 1-2. Good wins then for Suzy Trickett (3-1) Sarah Chick (3-1) who was our Lady of the match with a 20.35 average. So the draw guaranteed with Julie Frampton on last to get us the win. First leg both players missing loads of darts at a double it EVENTUALLY giving up for Julie. From a shaky 1st leg Julie never looked like losing going on to win 3-0 and giving our ladies A a well fought win 4-2.

Now Dorset have been here before only needing 4 matches to get the win, and up 1st the LEGEND that is John Clark (23.95) (manager playing his 330th game for his beloved Dorset and his 60th birthday) John's game going to a deciding leg no birthday present from Durham for John as he is beaten by Stephen Hayers. Next Lee Turle (28.37) who had a great game but came up against an in form and Durham's Man of the Match Paddy Lenagh who won 4-2 with a 28.73 average. Next Lee Edwardson (21.55) who didn't play his normal game losing 0-4. Suddenly Dorset A 3-0 down. Next up Mark Grimes (26.15) as the manager said in his end of game speech "he just doesn't know how to lose" well he had us ALL worried missing leg winning doubles and his game going to a deciding leg which YES HE WON. Next up Matty Woodhouse (21.08) Matty not happy with his performance losing 2-4, next a sit on the edge of your seat game between Mark Porter (26.24) and Craig Anderson (27.43) from Durham. Potty poking a 124 on the bull to go 3-3 and get a deserved final leg decider which he won. Next Robbie Martin (25.38) getting a 4-2 win and securing the draw. Next the Big Show Dale Masterman (25.25) who didn't do a lot wrong but lost 2-4. Matt Yarrow (26.37) up next now Matt loves it up on stage and played exceptionally well winning 4-0 and getting the win for Dorset. Nigel Lamb (22.61) next up losing 2-4. A tremendous game next saw Thomas Chant (26.98) v Durham's Keith Gowland (26.63) game could of gone either way Thomas missing darts to win but probably the best I've seen him play with the game going to a final leg. The world champ Scott Mitchell (26.51) on last and anyone who likes neighbours (the Australian soap) as much as me can't be bad. Scott won 4-1 and was our Man of the Match more trophies to dust as his daughter Katie won woman of the match in the B. So even though our Men's A lost 5-7 the overall result Dorset 20 County Durham 16.

Next game another home game sees Cornwall come to the FORTRESS that is the Con Club, Ashley Road Poole, another hard game but that's how we like them. Only 4 weeks away green army marching on and winning.
